During the launch of the book “What Makes A High Performance Organization,” two clients of the HPO Center shared their knowledge and experiences. These two inspiring cases have been previously published on our website.
HP Defence & ATLAS Consortium
Nick Churchman, former Director of Organizational Effectiveness at HP Defence in the United Kingdom, has spent over four years working towards becoming a High Performance Organization (HPO). HP Defence is part of a large consortium that manages the IT infrastructure for the British Army worldwide, a challenging task. Recently, Nick chose a new challenge: moving to Australia. Within HP Defence and the ATLAS Consortium, significant steps have been taken towards HPO. Nick describes the journey as follows:
What we thought we were buying:
- A change initiative
- A methodology
- An answer to all our problems
What we got:
- A framework for change
- A unified language
- Something to stand behind together
How it felt:
- Uncomfortable at first
- Connecting & satisfying
- A driver for better performance
Grohe
Rob van den Maagdenberg, Vice President of Western Europe at Grohe and managing director of Grohe Netherlands, has also been working with the HPO philosophy for nearly four years. Despite the difficult construction market, Grohe is making significant strides towards becoming an HPO. Rob recently stated in an interview with SLOW Magazine: “It’s about wanting to do better than your competitors with the whole team. It’s about wanting to win, to improve every time. When everyone says ‘yes’ to that, it unleashes an incredible amount of energy, and that’s fantastic. I don’t know if you’ve been following the developments in faucets lately, but the Cooker faucet, which provides cold, hot, and boiling water, was invented here. And also the faucet that provides filtered water: made in Holland. In Germany, where Grohe’s parent company is located, they listen to us because they see that we are doing very well here. The energy is almost tangible.”
