Principle 2 of the HPO Manager – informing and dialoguing & fast decision-making and action-taking

Principle 2 of the HPO Manager

HPO managers spend much time informing the employees, and then communicating and dialoguing with them on the provided information (leadership behavior), while at the same time making sure these conversations do not turn into chaos or ‘paralysis by analysis’ by taking fast decisions and accompanying actions (managerial behavior) on the input received from employees.

Leadership behavior: How do you do informing, communicating and dialoguing well?

  1. You regularly inform employees about what is going on in the organization and what the forecasts are.
  2. You are in regular dialogue (2-way discussions) with your employees about important matters and improvements.
  3. You are into the habit of solving problems through dialogue.
  4. You are constantly developing new ways to enter into a dialogue.
  5. You regularly adjust your opinion based on the dialogue with employees.
  6. You regularly share the financial and non-financial results of the organization in a transparent manner.
  7. You regularly follow (additional) training in the field of conducting dialogues.
  8. You regularly have spontaneous and informal conversations with employees.

Managerial behavior: How do you do become a fast decision-maker and action-taker?

  1. You generally take enough time to make adequate decisions, but then quickly put them into action.
  2. You regularly discuss current performance with employees in order to be able to take corrective actions.
  3. You and your employees jointly set goals and actions for the short and long term.
  4. You ensure that the dialogue with employees does not lead to endless discussions.
  5. You would rather make a bad decision that you then put into action, than not making a decision at all.
  6. You evaluate the actions taken with employees and then take additional actions when needed.
